Preparing for success

If you’re just starting a professional organizing business or a new 1 person “solopreneur” venture, it’s critically important that you take time at the very beginning to assess your business and personal goals and construct an outline for a comprehensive plan. I discovered the hard way that there’s much more to running a successful business than just hanging out your shingle and waiting for the clients to roll on in. Managing the nuts and bolts of running a business and being good at what you do are two very different things.

Using a plan will help you decide the direction of your business, create effective marketing strategies, and monitor your growth. It keeps you on track from the time you launch until you reach your goals and objectives. It will help you prioritize your day to day decisions on growing your business which prepares you for the challenges (and opportunities!) that will arise as you move forward.

A business plan doesn’t have to be long or complicated. In fact, unless you need investors or a large amount of capital to start your business, you don’t need a traditional business plan at all. I designed a simple plan for my business called SOS (Soloprofessional Objectives & Strategies). After wasting considerable time and financial resources running down a bunch of rabbit holes, I hit on a simple, written outline that not only saved my sanity but helped me develop my own unique brand and niche. Not exactly Harvard business school, but it works!

You can use the same techniques to create a plan that’s right for your business. Send me an email at robin@yourlifeinorder.com if you’d like to find out how you can go from chaos to confident with your new business in an hour or less!
