Go Green
Kermit the frog sings its praises. We love having a bunch of it in our pockets. So what DOES it mean to be green?
Reducing your consumption of natural resources (e.g. water and energy) and unnecessary items.
Reusing materials repurposing your possessions, donating or gifting, purchase post-consumer and recycled materials, and using your own shopping bags, coffee cups, and water containers.
Recycling equipment, salvage and supplies like glass, plastic, metal, paper, electronics, building and landscaping materials.
We’re all in agreement that we need to adopt new habits to help protect our planet. But for most of us, apart from the usual recycling or charitable donation, we don’t really know what to do or how to take our efforts to the next level.
Have you made the decision to go green and become confused by all the options available? Green clothing, green household products and all those green services! Maybe you’d like to start small with a manageable list of resources and helpful ways to organize “green” that won’t tax your brain or break the bank.
So if you’re thinking—what’s the benefit of green organizing to me? Take a look. . .
- Changing your habits makes you a hero! You are directly impacting the environment while supporting your own organization goals. Reusing and recycling regularly is beneficial to the planet and helps keep clutter under control.
- Your environment will be healthier and more peaceful – which helps you relax, concentrate, and focus. An organized space is a healthier space—it’s easier to clean, there is less dust and cleaner air which helps allergy sufferers, and the absence of clutter piles will minimize stress, distraction and frustration!
- You’ll save time and money. The average person wastes approximately 35 minutes per day looking for papers or items they’ve misplaced. Organization saves you time searching or redoing and re-purchasing stuff you already have because you can’t find it. Besides reducing your utility bills, organization has a lot of other financial benefits. Avoiding late fees, purchasing duplicate items, and paying monthly storage unit fees to warehouse clutter are just a few. And who couldn’t use a little more green in their wallet?
- Your home will appreciate in value when you turn unusable space into functional living areas. Do you have rooms in your home that are closed off and unusable because of clutter? Every month you’re paying rent or a mortgage and taxes for space you aren’t using. Not only will an organized home expand your living/working area so you get more of what you’re paying for, you will feel more expansive and less stressed when you can walk past those spaces without cringing with guilt and overwhelm.
- Life is easier and more enjoyable when you’re organized. Believe it or not, once you’ve got systems in place, it takes less effort and time to be organized than you think. Clutter and chaos are a huge drain on your time and energy. They will make sure you don’t get anything done, and that you will continue to function in dysfunction! Once you’ve made getting organized part of your lifestyle, it will become second nature to you. Really!
Have you got what it takes?
I guarantee your success if you will develop a “3D” mindset:
- A DECISION to make your organizing goal a priority. You must be willing to defer activities and tasks that aren’t consistent with your goal – at least for the short term – while you allocate time to accomplish your “green” vision.
- A clear DIRECTION. You must be clear on what it is you want to achieve and create a step by step plan to get you there. Your crystal clear vision will motivate you and keep you inspired when you have those “oh no” moments.
- DISCIPLINE yourself to take daily consistent action. Small, consistent baby steps beat infrequent or sporadic bursts of activity every time. Working with a buddy or a coach can help you stay motivated and on track with your goal.
How I can help. . .
1. On-site consulting.
I’ll work with you one-on-one in your space to help you accomplish your green goal. We’ll assess your space together, and I will compose a priority proposal, based on your needs and goals. Together, we’ll design the function of your room, sort through and reduce clutter in a green friendly way. I’ll coach you to help you decide what to keep and where. Then we’ll put it all together in a fun but functional way – with a maintenance plan that will help you stay organized.
2. Phone & email coaching.
I’ll coach, guide, and support you through weekly phone sessions and unlimited email on topics like suggesting where and how to get started, what to do, and strategies for helping you break through resistance and obstacles. We’ll begin with an hour assessment, followed by 45 minute weekly calls. You’ll also receive 2-15 minute “laser” coaching calls per month to keep you motivated and moving forward.
