ORGANIZE YOUR HOME THE WAY YOU USE IT. . .

It’s easy to organize any room in your home just by following these simple steps:

1.    Decide how the room is going to be used.  Will it be used mainly as a craft or hobby area?  A guest bedroom?  A playroom for the children?  A home office?  What activities will be taking place there?

2.    Next remove all items that are not related to the main function of the room.  If you are using a spare bedroom to create a home office, you will need to move the bed, dresser, and other unrelated items from the room.

3.    Make a list of items that you do want in your room.  Using the example above, the home office, you would probably want to include a desk and chair, filing cabinet, computer/printer, and a place for supplies.

4.    Arrange your space logically.  Group items you will use together in the same place.  For example, you would position your desk and filing cabinet near each other for easy retrieval of data.

5.    Make sure you have adequate storage for containing items.  If you are designing a child’s playroom, you’ll need containers for art supplies and toys.  In a family room you may want to designate a spot near the TV to house DVD’s, videos, and remotes.

The important thing to remember is to organize your room around its ACTUAL USE rather than its intended use.  Arrange your space to suit your lifestyle and work needs.
