Moving Season

Move season is upon us again, here in Seattle, and right along with the crocus and daffodils popping up out of the warming ground, the For Sale signs are springing up in front of houses everywhere as well. The phone is starting to ring with agents and clients looking for help getting their move organized.

It’s interesting this year, because I’m moving myself at the end of March. It’s my 6th move in 8 years – and I have this thing down to an absolute science! Hopefully it will be my last for awhile, but you just never know.

I get asked all the time about what to look for when hiring movers. I work with a lot of really good moving companies, but what I specifically look for in a mover is someone who’s willing to do that little extra to help. For instance, on a recent move when the movers unloaded the boxes in the new home, they were careful to put the boxes in the rooms as they were marked, and even put up with the homeowner changing her mind several times as to where they should go – all without mumbling or eye rolling.

They also placed the boxes in a very organized fashion instead, stacked neatly against the wall.

When a large, upholstered armchair seemed to be too big to go up the stairs, one of the movers grabbed a screwdriver, took the legs off, hauled it upstairs and replaced the legs.

But the piece de resistance was when the homeowner decided she’d really like her massive STONE sculpture (that she’d planned to leave behind) displayed on the rooftop deck of her new triplex. Those 3 spunky movers dragged all 10 pieces of that huge sculpture up 4 flights of stairs (10 stairs each flight) and assembled it for her – at the end of the day and in the pouring rain. Just like it was made out of cardboard. I felt like I was witnessing the building of the pyramids!

I wanted to thank you for being the inspiration in my life, to help me realize I could make a change. I would not have had the idea to work from home if I hadn't coached with you!
