If You’re moving during the holidays keep it simple

I enjoy the holiday season and I’m thankful I haven’t had to schedule a holiday move personally – yet. So the advice I give my clients when moving during the holidays becomes unavoidable – adjust your plans accordingly, keep it simple and above all – don’t panic!

1. Keep in mind that celebrating is going to be different this year
   Trying to keep all of your usual holiday traditions will only frustrate you. Accept it and plan activities that require less preparation – like visiting community light displays, tree lighting ceremonies and local events. Attend services at your place of worship. This will help you escape the chaos of the move for a few hours, and boost your holiday spirit. Remember, you’ll be able to celebrate in style next year in your new home!
2. Shop online and have ship gifts directly.
   When you’ve got a whole house to move, adding wrapped gifts to the mix won’t make things easier. Shopping online is convenient and safer (no possible breakage or damaged wrapping).
3. Decorate simply.
   Choose items that will be easy to pack and move at the last minute. Decorate the areas that are most noticed – like the living room and the fireplace. Keep live greens to a minimum and don’t opt for fancy outdoor light displays this year. If you will be in your new home just before the holidays you may want to save your decorating until after you move in. Keep a box of most cherished decorations separate from the rest of the holiday items so you can access them quickly.
