Coach Chuck Proudfit originated this clever mantra for helping clients get rid of those low level activities that don’t enhance or advance your most important priorities:
E – Eliminate
- Don’t do it!
- Probably at least 40-50% of the items on your TO DO list are unnecessary or can be done by others.
- Experiment with NOT doing something – see if anyone notices.
- Try to dump at least 20% of the activities you currently have going right now that aren’t in line with your Power of 3.
D – Delegate
- Delegate everything except what you are brilliant at!
- Don’t force yourself to learn or be good at things that aren’t in line with your priorities.
- Do you need to hire someone to help you? Try this exercise: Figure out how much money you make per hour (or how much you would make if you were spending time on your Power of 3 working toward that professional goal – and getting it).
Then estimate how much time you would save if you didn’t have to take care of this non-enhancing activities. Multiply that by your hourly wage and see where you come out!
Delegation is about ridding yourself of your weaknesses and concentrating on your strengths.
A – Automate
Outsource, use an electronic contact manager, use your computer, cell phone – take advantage of technology!
