Add More Protein To Your Diet

I don’t know about you, but I am a total carb junkie. That’s good up to a point, since carbs are the main source of energy fuel for the brain. But chowing down on huge amounts of carbs (especially white, refined carbs) actually triggers cravings for even more carbs – and the result is weight gain if you’re not burning them off.
Refined carbs trigger a release of insulin that can quickly send blood sugar plummeting and make you feel hungry and tired. I don’t like eating a lot of protein in the morning, so I was relying on toast, an English muffin or a bagel for breakfast. By mid morning I was ravenous.
I’ve been trying to add a little more protein to each meal and my snacks to help keep me feeling fuller longer. Protein digests more slowly than refined carbs, so you’ll end up eating less. If you’re not into meats, you can add things like soy nuts, almonds, walnuts, legumes and light tuna – or what experts are calling the new “best” protein food: cottage cheese. (it’s low in fat and calories, and has more protein per cup than a hamburger!).
